Parents are venting their frustration after discovering that Australia Zoo's newest accommodation has a strict four-person limit on each of the eight cabins on offer.

The Crocodile Hunter Lodge, named after Steve Irwin, promised to give its patrons an experience on the 'wild side of luxury' with free daily breakfast for each guest, exclusive use of the lodge's swimming pool - and best of all - unlimited access to the zoo itself.

At prices for one night starting at $849 it's certainly an expensive trip but its marketing as the ultimate family destination lured a number of Aussies to take the plunge.

'With spacious decks overlooking the vast bushland and wonderful wildlife, it will be a special overnight experience to cherish with your loved ones.'

But after eagerly trying to access the lodge's website in June it became apparent that it's only made for small families up to four people.

Permitted patrons include two adults and two children (aged between three and 16) or one adult and three children, ruling out any slightly larger groupings of five.

A spokeswoman for the zoo said three bedroom cabins would be added to the mix in 2023 to compensate for the smaller bookings at present, Kidspot reported

'We like to go away and stay at places when we get time and thought what an awesome experience this would be when we visit the zoo once a year and have done for the last seven years, also being big fans of the Irwins,' one mum shared.

'I've got four kids and I couldn't book. I even tried booking two places but couldn't.'

'Would love to stay here, but only two kids allowed!' said another.

'I didn't even get to the price as I have three children to accommodate,' a third mum said. 'It rules out a lot of families I'm sure. Very disappointing'
