James ‘Buster’ Corley and business partner David Corriveau opened the first Dave & Buster’s in Dallas in 1982.
The two decided to collaborate on a new project that merged a restaurant with entertainment after observing that customers frequently shifted between both businesses, according to the Dave & Buster’s website.
To test out their idea, they acquired an empty 40,000 square foot warehouse in Dallas along the two mile stretch of I-35E known as “Restaurant Row.” They gave it the name Dave & Buster’s rather than Buster & Dave’s because Corriveau won the coin toss to choose which name would be called first.
Corriveau had created a venue for entertainment and gaming just a few doors down from Corley’s restaurant in Little Rock, Arkansas, in the late 1970s.
