Did the right mom win? Grey’s Anatomy fans were rattled by the Thursday, May 5, episode, which ended with the gut-wrenching final decision in Calzona’s tense custody battle over Sofia.

Arizona (Jessica Capshaw) filed for custody for her adopted daughter earlier this season after ex-wife Callie (Sara Ramirez) said she was taking the child to New York with her and Penny (Samantha Sloyan). After both moms made impassioned pleas from the witness stand this week, the judge ruled in favor of Arizona, leaving Callie heartbroken.

“How the hell did this happen?” the devastated orthopedic surgeon asked Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) through tears as Sofia and Arizona left the courthouse together.

Twitter users were clearly divided about the polarizing ruling, along with what the future might hold for Calzona. Viewers also have strong feelings about Penny, who appears to be headed for drama with Callie next week.
